3.25.26-9am- Progressive Design-Build – Advantages, Risks and Opportunities

Back to Events List

Progressive design-build as a project delivery method is a unique variation on design-build which has found popularity recently especially on large complicated projects.  Progressive design-build typically employs a qualifications-based selection process with design phases, pricing, and commencement of construction coming in various stages, with specific decision points called “off-ramps” employed to create flexibility in the process.  This delivery method differs from traditional design-build and presents opportunities and risks for both project owners and design-builders.

Our panel  will address the most pressing contracting issues involved with the progressive design-build delivery method and highlight how this delivery system can decrease budget busts and improve outcomes for all participants, but if not done right, can also lead to major losses. This presentation will provide examples from specific project experiences and emphasize how new standard forms that AGC was instrumental in creating through ConsensusDocs can help mitigate risk, allocate risk fairly between constructors, owners, and design professionals, and practically implement progressive design-build.
