3.26.26-9am- Transformation in Transportation Construction Delivery – The Rise of Progressive Design-Build

Back to Events List

In an uncertain construction environment with rapid technological developments, inflationary pressures, evolving regulatory climate and challenging timelines, more and more clients are exploring progressive design-build  as a solution for infrastructure projects. This session acts as a detailed roadmap,  providing insights into when progressive design-build may be best for a client and how attendees can successfully guide their teams as various trends combine and collide to provide challenges and opportunities for the construction industry.

Learn from real-world case studies comparing Progressive Design-Build and traditional project delivery methods. Our diverse team, including a former Kansas Secretary of Transportation and seasoned construction and progressive design-build professionals with knowledge and experience in transportation and infrastructure projects across the U.S., offers client, engineer, and contractor perspectives related to cost and risk management, design, and constructability. The session will address shared challenges contractors may face on the progressive design-build path, emphasizing how to shift from individual lanes (siloed working) to collaborative teamwork.

Case studies will highlight transportation work for the Florida Department of Transportation; and the $30 million Flyover Bridge for the Port of Port Arthur, Texas – a project funded through a combination of state, local and federal resources. We will also touch on the community collaboration achieved at the $500 million Water Plant infrastructure project in Wichita, Kansas.

We will share lessons learned when implementing a new delivery method – including strategies for managing multiple stakeholders and municipalities – the complexity and importance of relationships – and considerations when developing a high-level installation plan. Learn about procurement pitfalls and how to prepare your business to take advantage of progressive design-build opportunities. Ultimately, by sharing valuable insights and best practices with attendees, this session aims to make the entire project journey smoother and more efficient for both clients and contractors.
