Overview

The Business Development Bootcamp, presented by the AGC Business Development Committee, is a dynamic, half-day workshop designed to equip construction professionals with the tools, insights, and strategies needed to elevate their business development (BD) efforts. Hosted as a pre-convention experience at the 2026 AGC Convention, this Bootcamp blends expert-led presentations with hands-on workbook exercises, peer collaboration, and strategic networking.

Whether you are a mid-career BD professional, a C-suite leader from a small firm, or an emerging talent eager to understand the mechanics of construction BD, this Bootcamp offers a collegiate-level (200–300 level) learning experience tailored to your growth.

Participants will receive a custom workbook to capture insights, complete exercises, and build a personalized BD action plan. The Bootcamp also connects attendees to a post-event learning community, ensuring continued mentorship and access to future AGC BD programming.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will analyze the key drivers of client loyalty in the construction industry and apply practical strategies—such as performance consistency, communication planning, and expectation management—to cultivate repeat business opportunities.
  • Participants will evaluate and design the structure of an effective BD team by defining roles, identifying key competencies, and implementing performance metrics that align with organizational goals.
  • Participants will identify and define their primary market audience to ensure business development efforts are targeted and efficient.
  • Through case study exercises, participants will examine and develop intentional, strategic relationships with owners throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participants will formulate and articulate a clear and compelling value proposition that differentiates their company by communicating unique strengths, capabilities, and benefits to clients and stakeholders.
  • Through an interactive panel discussion, participants will explore and evaluate the role of AI in transforming construction industry business development, assessing practical applications, limitations, and identifying actionable steps to prepare their organizations for AI-enabled workflows.

Who Should Attend?

· Company Leaders seeking strategic insight into BD growth and team accountability.

· BD and Marketing Professionals aiming to refine their planning and execution.

Business development in construction is often narrowly focused on proposals, overlooking the broader strategies that drive sustainable growth. The Bootcamp helps firms shift to a more proactive, data-driven approach—emphasizing relationship-building, strategic planning, and visual communication.

Participants will gain actionable insights, engage in hands-on exercises, and connect with peers and industry leaders through structured networking. This Bootcamp also fosters ongoing engagement through a dedicated learning community, ensuring the value continues well beyond the Convention.
